Biography:

    Dr. Zhiwen Yu is a Professor in School of Computer Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology, and an adjunct professor in Sun Yat-Sen university. He is a council member of CCF (2016-2020), and a senior member of IEEE, ACM,  IRSS, CCF and CAAI (where IRSS is the International Rough Set Society, CAAI is the China Association of Artificial Intelligence, CCF is the China Computer Federation). Dr. Yu is a member of the Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition Committee, the Database committee, the Multimedia Technology Committee and the Computer vision committee in  CCF, a member of the Machine Learning committee in CAAI.
    The research areas of Dr. Yu focus on data mining, pattern recognition, machine learning, and bioinformatics. He proposed several cluster ensemble approaches for class discovery from high dimensional datasets, which include the probabilistic re-sampling based cluster structure ensemble approach, the probabilistic cluster structure ensemble approach based on the Gaussian mixture models, the random subspace and graph theory based cluster ensemble approach, the hybrid cluster ensemble framework based on the random combination of data transformation operators, the expert’s knowledge based cluster ensemble approach, the hybrid fuzzy cluster ensemble approach, the hybrid adaptive classifier ensemble approach, the semi-supervised ensemble learning approach based on the sparse coding and the spectral regression. Dr. Yu also designed the neighborhood knowledge-based evolutionary algorithm which is used to perform multi-objective optimization for the ensemble framework.

    Until now, Dr. Yu has been published more than 100 referred journal papers and international conference papers, which include 43 journal papers indexed by SCI. There are 25 first-author papers among the 45 journal papers, 56 first-author papers among 85 papers indexed by EI. He has published 20 papers in the journals of ACM/IEEE Transactions (such as TKDE, TEVC, TCYB, TMM, TCBB, TCSVT, TITB, TNB, and so on), 4 papers in the Pattern Recognition journal, 2 papers in the Bioinformatics journal and 3 papers in the Information Science journal.  The paper “SPARSE REPRESENTATION BASED SPECTRAL REGRESSION” won the Lotfi Zadeh Best Paper Award in 2011 The International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics (ICMLC 2011).
   Dr. Yu serves as the reviewers in a lot of top journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence、IEEE Transactions on  Knowledge and Data Engineering、IEEE Transactions on  Evolutionary Computation、 IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems、IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics-Part B: Cybernetics、IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics、IEEE Transaction on Multimedia、IEEE Transactions on NanoBioScience、Pattern Recognition、Bioinformatics、Information Sciences, and the section chair or the PC member in some international conferences.
   Dr. Yu takes part in or is in charge of 23 research projects from the government in China and Guangdong province. He gained the new star award from Guangzhou Chapter of ACM China and CCF in 2014.
